Looking Back at Hawkworld 2025

The Year 2025 is coming to a close, so it's time to take a look back at some of Hawkworld's highlights and lowlights of the year. Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and even Hawkwoman continued to appear in comics here and there throughout the year, including the JSA series, some unannounced cameos, and a few covers and variant covers. Hawkgirl made her silver screen debut in Superman, the horrid Absolute Hawkman appeared, and the wait for a Hawkman series entered its sixth year. I've made a list of highs and lows for the year. If you have a certain highlight or lowlight you would like to add, please leave it in the comments below! And now, the highlights first...

DC Comics Solicitations 2026 March for Hawkman/Hawkgirl

DC Comics released its solicitations for March 2026, and it appears to be another bare month for the Hawks. The biggest surprise was that Absolute Hawkman is still alive after apparently confronting Absolute Superman in February. Of course, covers are never reliable, so we'll have to wait and see. He may not even be in the issue. DC must have liked their K.O. thing, so now it appears they're doing a wrestling version of it. There were zero mentions of Hawkman or Hawkgirl this month, but they appeared on a couple of covers. Details below.

Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hawkman Version)

"'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hawkman Version)"
By Clement Clarke Moore / Revised by Tim Board (@Hawkworld_)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Thanagarian Snare Mouse
The DC Classic figures lined up on the mantle with care
In hopes that Hawkman soon would be there

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Nth metal danced in their heads
And mamma in her gown, and I in my Hawkman logo cap
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap

Horus, God of the Nth Metal

Green Lantern Corps No. 3 (June 2025)

Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, has been an important part of Hawkman and Hawkgirl's story ever since their very first appearances in Flash Comics No. 1 (January 1940). Over the years, Horus has changed and evolved in many ways. This year, Horus has suddenly made a couple of interesting appearances so let's take a look at the god who has a very important connection to Hawkman and the Nth Metal.

Board Review of JSA #14

DC Comics and Jeff Lemire are in the process of rewriting the beginning of the Justice Society and we have the charter members gradually meeting each othre for the first time. Hawkman and Hawkgirl are already together, with Shiera already Carter's equal partner as an archaeologist and a superhero. This review will focus on their part of the story. Spoilers everywhere so turn away if you haven't read it yet.

Hawkman and Hawkwoman by The Joe Kubert School Student, Rory Chapman

Hawkworld Facebook member Doug Chapman shared a piece with the group and I had to post it here as well! His son, Rory Champman is currently in his third year at The Joe Kubert School (also a member of Hawkworld Facebook!), and he drew a beautiful picture of Hawkman and Hawkwoman in an embrace over the the city! This one goes straight into the Hawkworld Gallery! We may see him doing the Hawks in the future! Keep a Hawks' eye out!

'Pinions and Rants (December 2025)

November 2025 has come and come, and it is now over five years since Hawkman has had his own series. Robert Venditti's series ran for 29 issues from 2018 to 2021 (cover dates) and left Hawkman and Hawkwoman in a really, really good place. They had been reunited, were completely devoted and committed to each other, and their reincarnation was over and done with. Hawkman was Dr. Carter Hall, renowned archaeologist on Earth, while Hawkwoman was Shayera Hol, Empress and Protector of the Thanagarians. They had a super awesome spaceship called the Soarship. They were members of the Justice Society. They were given an extremely long life span (as long as they don't get killed for the last time), and they were now ready to live their final life together...and then...nothing.

Hawkgirl Helmet Added to the Hawkworld Aviary!

The Hawkgirl helmet arrived today. I've been wanting a Hawkgirl helmet to go with the Hawkman helmet for a while and I found one a while back. It's fashioned after the helmet in the Superman movie so it's not quite the style I prefer, but it was a good price so I went for it. It was bent a bit out of shape so I'll have to get it back into shape and figure out how to display it in my Hawkworld Aviary!

Update! Rearranged my Hawkworld Aviary a bit to make a spot for the helmets! Click Read more for pics!

Random Hawkman/Hawkgirl Wheets 12-4-2025

*Hawkman can go shirtless because he doesn't feel cold. The Nth metal protects him.
*As a hero, Hawkman flies high in the sky. As an archaeologist, he goes far underground. Interesting contrast.

A Rock In My Hawkworld Collection

Of all the hundreds of items in my Hawkworld.org Aviary, a plain, ordinary brown rock takes a prominent place in my collection. But it's an extremely special rock.

The History of Hawkman and Hawkgirl in a Gantt Chart

The history of Hawkman is long, and there have been several versions of the heroes over the years. I've made several attempts at making guides and flowcharts of their history to make it easie to navigate through their history. I thought I would try another chart to take a look at their history. I believe this is called a Gantt Chart (using time bars) but I'm not an authority on charts so if this style has another name, please let me know. Anyway, it's a Gantt Chart for now.

I Saw Shiera Kissing Carter Hall! (Who cares about Ma Hunkel...)

DAYUM. I had heard that Hawkman (Carter Hall) and Hawkgirl (Shiera Saunders) had a cameo in DC's I Saw Ma Hunkel Kissing Santa Claus. With Christmas coming up, I wasn't about to spend $11 on something that may not turn out to be so good but wow. This cameo is the cameo to end all cameos! And I'm just kidding. I love Ma Hunkel. She's awesome.

This is absolutely beautiful. Love truly is in the air!

The Claw of Horus Returns in DC K.O.

Scott Snyder's absolutely madhouse event, DC K.O., continues in issue No. 2, and the second round plays out. In this round, 32 heroes and villains have to obtain one of the sixteen most powerful items in the DC universe in order to advance to the next round. And lo and behold, Hawkman's Claw of Horus is one of those items!

Hawk Alerts for November 26, 2025!

The DC releases for November 26 are out and I'm getting news that the Hawks are in a few comics so here's a heads up for all the Hawkfans!

Four Hawkman vs Superman Battles

Hawkman vs. Superman. These two have been teammates and friends since the Golden Age of comics, but there have been a few times when they have gone up against each other. DC Comics solicitations for February 2026 revealed that they would be going up against each other yet again in Absolute Superman No. 16. The cover by Rafa Sandoval has goteen a lot of attention in the last few days so I thought I would look back on a few occassions when Hawkman and Superman went up against each other.

On paper, Hawkman doesn't stand a chance. Superman is one of the most powerful superheroes in DC Comics. I'm a Hawkman fan but even I will admit that Superman way above Hawkman's level in strength and power. However, there have been a couple times when Hawkman got the upperhand.  Let's take a look back at the times the two iconic heroes have gone head to head.

Absolute Universe's Hawkman Vs. Superman

DC Comics' solicitations came out this weekend and we found out that the Absolute Hawkman will be going up against the Absolute Superman in Absolute Superman No. 16 (release date Feb. 4). Here's what it says.

Beginner's Guide to Hawkworld!

We get many visitors to the blog every day, and I'm sure many of the visitors are wanting to find out about Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Unfortunately, almost every article about them thinks that it is necessary to mention  their "confusing, complicated, convoluted" history, so it might seem a but daunting. I've started a Beginner's Guide for all visitors who are new to Hawkman and Hawkgirl and want to know more about them, but they are not sure where to go.

Click the logo at the top right of the blog page and it will give all of the basics of the current Hawks, where they are, who they are with, which comics to find them in, and more. And you can also check the complete list of comics that they have been in over the years, all the trades with the contents listed, and an extensive guide to their history.

I also added the list of Hawkman creators, artists, and other leaders in the comics, TV, and movie business who follow and/or support Hawkworld, so you can check that out as well!

Happy Hawk Hunting!

DC Comics Solicitations February 2026 (Hawkman/Hawkgirl)

The DC Comics solicitations for February 2026 have been released! Hawkman pops here and there, but I didn't catch Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in the first run-through. Three different versions of Hawkman show up in February.

Hawkman: Decades Old, Forever Young

Art by Adam Kubert

Celebrating Hawkman Day has been a tradition at Hawkworld for a decade now. This month we are celebrating the 86 years of Hawkman, and in January we are also celebrating the 10th annniversary of our Hawkman/Hawkgirl group called Hawkworld. Our Hawkman Day celebration has gradually become recognized, and it has even been mentioned in The Forgotten All-Star: A Biography of Gardner Fox by Jennifer DeRoss.

Hawkman first appeared in Flash Comics No. 1. The cover date is January 1940, but the release was in November 1939. There is some debate about the exact day when the comic was released. The house ad from 1939 says "About Nov. 10th," but the Grand Comics Database says the following; "The on-sale date of November 20, 1939 is the publication date reported in filings with the U. S. Copyright Office. However, a house ad in Action Comics #19 states the issue was to be on sale on November 10." So either date works. At Hawkworld, we've settled on November 20th.

Nine Random Thoughts of a Hawkfan #20251117

*Hawkman is a warrior who has reincarnated on Earth and many other planets across time and space. If he learned one fighting technique in each life on all those planets, and if he only remembered only half of them, that would still make him one of, if not the most skilled hand-to-hand combat fighter in the world.

Board Review of JSA #13

The Ragnarok story was finally completed and from this issue, we are jumping back to the 1940s and the beginning of the Justice Society. Hawkman/Carter Hall was a charter member but from the looks of it, Hawkgirl/Shiera Saunders-Hall will be fully involved as well.

Spoilers ahead so if you haven't read the issue yet, please go check it out first!

DC Finest Hawkman Giveaway Contest!

The 86th anniversary of Hawkman's first appearance is coming up on November 20th! Since I started Hawkworld back in 2016, we have celebrated November 20th as Hawkman Day. Flash Comics No. 1, which featured Hawkman's first appearance, was officially released on November 20, 1939.

One Hundred Copies of Hawkman Vol. 1 Sold on eBay?!

Seven Hells! There was a comic collector who sells comics on ebay named chillcomics1. Out of the blue, he put out over a hundred copies of Hawkman Vol. 1 No. 1! A buyer picked up the entire selection for $6000 last Sunday. The grades of the books were fair to low, so he would have to sell each copy for about $50 dollar each to come out even. The buyer might start selling them on ebay so if there are any Hawkfans looking for a Hawkman Vol. 1 No. 1, this might be your chance!

But...who collects Hawkman Vol. 1 No. 1? I want to meet this person. This was the Hawkman comic that was on the spin rack when I was born in April 1964, so I would actually consider it if I weren't trying to put two kids through college at the moment. But this is an amazing collection for any issue of any hero.

We might be surprised to find out where the Hawkfans are!

Hawkman/Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl Updates (November 2025)

         Hawkman               Hawkwoman             Hawkgirl

Over the last few weeks, I've read some articles and seen videos about the Hawks, and many of them have mentioned that they don't know what is going on with Hawkman, Hawkwoman, and Hawkgirl at the moment. Admittedly, it has been five years since Hawkman's last series ended, Hawkgirl's mini-series from 2023 has been completely irrelevant, and sightings of Hawkwoman have been extremely rare. So, here's an update to where they are and what they are doing at the moment.

First, I have written the Hawks' history in seven chapters, and you can read up on the current versions and where they came from here

Random thoughts of a Hawkman fan #251031

When you think about it, Hawkman is a terrifying presence. A 6'6 man wearing a hawk mask, huge wings, a harness across a bare chest, and a huge mace with blood stains. It's Michael Myers, Jeepers Creepers, and Silent Hill's Pyramid Head rolled in one.

DC Comics 2026 January Solicitations (Hawkman and Hawkgirl)

Here are the two books that I could find that have Hawkman and Hawkgirl in some form. No series for either was announced. Hawkman appears to be out of the DC K.O. thing so that's that. Slim pickins this month.

Hawk Appearances in Comics Released 2025-10-22

Hawkman and Hawkgirl made a few unexpected appearances in the comics released on October 22, 2025 so here is a quick rundown!

Gold Hawk of Andrino! Remember him?

Justice League Unlimited No. 12 / Hawkman Vol. V No. 4

Great Gentleman's Ghost! This was an unexpected surprise! I was watching the Comic Boom video where they go over all the releases each week. With all this DC K.O. tie-in stuff going on, I've been on the lookout for any news about the Hawkman vs. Conner Hawke matchup and I was rather surprised at what turned up this week!

Hawkman Refused to be a Dictator. Twice.

World's Finest Comics No. 278 (April 1982)

Hawkman got tossed into a political discussion earlier this month when Absolute Evil No. 1 came out. The issue showed him as a traitor to his fellow heroes and Americans, and then as the murderer of Green Arrow and a full-blown villain assisting the other villains of that universe. Even though the precious DC Trinity are still basically themselves, just under different circumstances, DC completely destroyed the Hawkman of the Absolute universe and made him a despicable character who will probably meet his end badly.

Does This Guy Like Hawkman or Not?

Art by Inhyuk Lee

There's a site called comicbook.com which puts out pretty good articles at times about comics and anything related. I'm sure anyone who reads up on comics news has gone to the site many times. Another article involving Hawkman popped up today so I thought I'd share it because I'm thoroughly confused by what the intent was.

The article is titled "10 Most Important DC Characters Who Aren’t Superman, Batman Or Wonder Woman" and sure enough, Hawkman comes in on the list at No. 10.  "Oh, cool!," I thought. Nice to get some recognition! But then I started reading.

Video of Essential Hawkman and Hawkgirl Comics

A YouTube channel called Comic Belief put together a 16-minute video of a list of essesntial Hawkman and Hawkgirl comics. It starts from 1940 and goes all the way to the recent destruction of Thanagar in the Green Lantern comic. Some comics that I wouldn't have thought of are listed so it's a good list! Hawkman was Set Up Beautifully, and DC Comics Put It Away

Art by Stjepan Sejic, Bryan Hitch, Mikel Janin

The day was March 15, 2018. That was an exciting day in the history of Hawkman. Washington Post announced the return of our favorite winged wonder. It was going to be written by Robert Venditti and drawn by Bryan Hitch. It was the beginning of a wonderful adventure that lasted almost three years. Hawkman Twitter blew up that day, with many Hawkman fans talking about the new series that was announced. Even Venditti and Hitch were surprised by the reception the news received.

During the Golden Age, Hawkman Covers Sold Better Than Flash Covers

During the 1940s, Hawkman was featured in every Flash Comics issue until it ended at issue No. 104. During the series, Hawkman and Flash took turns being featured on the cover for almost the entire run. There is a YouTube channel called Comic Collector Geek, where the collector talks about his vintage comic collection, and he talks about this a bit.

In a video released on October 9, 2025, he talks about how the covers feauring Hawkman sold better than the Flash covers and gives his reasons why. Pretty interesting. It's brief, but it starts at about the 6:15 mark.

Thanks to u/kurumais for posting this on Hawkworld Reddit!

DC Comics' Destruction of Hawkman

This is my reaction to Absolute Evil so if you liked the issue, and many did, it might not be worth your time reading this article. Straight upfront, I did not for various reasons. Just call it a theraputic ketchup-throwing rant and we'll buckle up for tomorrow's release of the first issue of DC KO.

DC Comics destroys Hawkman. Again. They just wrecked him for the current generation of comic book readers. They ruined Hawkman for a generation back in the 2000s with the Justice League cartoon by making him a schizophrenic stalker who intruded on Hawkgirl and her romance with GL John Stewart. The kids who grew up hating Hawkman are now writing the comics and articles for comic book sites. This is why we get Jeremy Adams teasing Shayera-John Stewart in the Green Lantern Corps seies and Isabela Merced declaring she wants to see John Stewart in the DCU. It's rare when you come across an article that looks favorably at Hawkman now. I realize there will be many who disagree with my take on this development and will advise me to calm the heck down. I'm calm but it's a simmering calm, and after numerous stories by writers who have made Hawkman a character to hate, this is my current state.

Hawkworld Hits One Million Views!

Hawkworld.org hits ONE MILLION views!
Hawkworld opened on November 20, 2017, Hawkman's 78th anniversary, and the number of daily views of the site has steadily increased over the years. At first, it was a good day if the blog got 100 views a day. It gradually increased and in May 2021, I got the Hawkworld.org domain. This really had an effect on the views and the site now gets anywhere from 3k to 7k views a day, or over 100,000 views a month. I thought it would take a lot longer to reach this goal, so I'm amazed Hawkworld has reached 1,000,000 views so soon.

Hawkman's Super Spaceship: The Soarship

Every superhero has a lair of some sort. Superman has his Fortress of Solitude. Batman has his Batcave. Hawkman has his lair as well. It's never really been acknowledged, but it's been there since the beginning of the Silver Age. In the most recent Hawkman series, Hawkman Vol. V (2018-2021), Rovert Venditti brought back Hawkman's spaceship and made it into such a lair that even Batman would envy.

Ever since Hawkman entered the Silver Age as a Thanagarian, he has had a spaceship in many of his stories. These spaceships have played an important role in many of his stories. Some lasted for years, while others only showed up briefly. Before we get into the main topic, here's a quick rundown of the spaceships that Hawkman has used in the past.
