Hawkworld Hits One Million Views!

Hawkworld.org hits ONE MILLION views!
Hawkworld opened on November 20, 2017, Hawkman's 78th anniversary, and the number of daily views of the site has steadily increased over the years. At first, it was a good day if the blog got 100 views a day. It gradually increased and in May 2021, I got the Hawkworld.org domain. This really had an effect on the views and the site now gets anywhere from 3k to 7k views a day, or over 100,000 views a month. I thought it would take a lot longer to reach this goal, so I'm amazed Hawkworld has reached 1,000,000 views so soon.

Hawkman's Super Spaceship: The Soarship

Every superhero has a lair of some sort. Superman has his Fortress of Solitude. Batman has his Batcave. Hawkman has his lair as well. It's never really been acknowledged, but it's been there since the beginning of the Silver Age. In the most recent Hawkman series, Hawkman Vol. V (2018-2021), Rovert Venditti brought back Hawkman's spaceship and made it into such a lair that even Batman would envy.

Ever since Hawkman entered the Silver Age as a Thanagarian, he has had a spaceship in many of his stories. These spaceships have played an important role in many of his stories. Some lasted for years, while others only showed up briefly. Before we get into the main topic, here's a quick rundown of the spaceships that Hawkman has used in the past.

Choose the best Hawkman logo!

Choose the best Hawkman logo!
These two logos had the most votes by far of the six Hawkman logos I posted on Facebook, Reddit, and Bluesky last week. Let’s do a run-off! Which would you choose; 1961 or 2002? Post your choice in the comment section below!

DC Comics Solicitations 2025 December (Hawkman and Hawkgirl Report)

DC Comics' solicitations for December 2025 have been released and here are the issues that mention Hawkman and Hawkgirl or have either of them on the cover. Sadly, still no news of any kind of a series for either hero so the wait continues. While we wait, let's pick thru the mountain of Bat-related comics and see if we can find where the Hawks will turn up.

Hawkworld Comic Book Dividers

My comic book dividers for my Hawkman comics!

A few people have asked me about my comic book dividers that they see in my Hawkworld videos. There's nothing to it really. I just took some contruction paper, printed out small pics of the number 1 issues, posted them on the end, measured the paper to fit the shelves and that's it! Helps me keep my comics in order and easy to find.

Best Hawkman Logo!

Hawkman has been around for over 85 years and he has been given several logos along the way. It seems that every time a new series started, they gave him a new logo. Below are the 6 main logos that Hawkman has had over the years!

Shayera Thal: The Most Tragic Heroine in DC Comics History

In 1989, comics fans were introduced to a new Hawkwoman in the Hawkworld series by Tim Truman. Shayera Thal was unlike any Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman we had ever seen in the 50 years since her debut in the 1940s. This Hawkman was brash, hot-tempered, and usually hit first before she thought to ask questions. She definitely kept Katar Hol/Hawkman on his toes and they often clashed over their very different ways of approaching a problem. She disappeared from comics in 1996, returned briefly in the mid -2000s before her death in the Rann-Thanagar War. Even after 20 years, Shayera remains one of the fans' favorite characters in the history of Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman.

Finding an Actor for Hawkman in the DCU

15 Actors Perfect for the Role of Hawkman in the DCU

As the DCU really gets rolling, movie fans are speculating who will join the DCU next and Hawkman is one of the characters that many fans want to see in the new universe. We just had Aldis Hodge as the first ever movie version of Hawkman in Black Adam in 2022, but who will be the next?

For years, my personal choice for Hawkman has been Alexander Skarsgard, and I still think he would be a great Hawkman. Check out Tarzan or The Northman and you'll get a good idea of how perfect he would be for the role.

I just came across an article that lists 15 actors who would be good for Hawkman and some of them are pretty good choices. I still stand by Alexander Skarsgard but Luke Evans has me wondering how awesome he would be in the role.

What do you guys think? Do you have a choice for an actor who would be great as Hawkman? Seeing how James Gunn has casted so far, it will probably be someone that surprises us all when it happens.

Finding Hawkman and Hawkgirl After Each DC Crisis Event

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the famous, or infamous depending on your point of view, Crisis on Infinite Earths (COIE). Since then, there have been several crisis events to restructure the DC Universe. While it may be all and good for DC Holy Trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, the "lesser" heroes of the DC Universe have often forgotten and made even more complicated than before.

Hawkman Coming to the DC Absolute Universe in October

Absolute Evil was announced a few weeks ago and alert Hawkfans immediately noticed Hawkman on the cover. The villains are having a "go team!" moment, and under thier hands are pictures of heroes that they are going after or have already defeated. Hawkman's picture is there on the bottom left. It's also interesting that his picture is the only one that is not ripped. So what can this mean? He may not be defeated yet. He may be but they didn't bother ripping his picture. He may not even be in the issue at all. Which has happened many, many, many times.

But then we got some confirmation (thank to Matt B. Lloyd for the heads up!) that Hawkman WILL actually be in the issue. Here is a quote from the PopVerse article.

DC K.O: Hawkman's Opponent Revealed

Last month, DC announced a new event called DC K.O, a tournament-style competition where heroes go up against each other to determine who will go up against Darkseid. Or something like that. The 32 heroes in the draw were announced and Hawkman (no Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman) was announced. Personally, I'm kind of burnt out on heroes against heroes and big crossovers but since Hawkman is involved, let's follow it and see what happens. The full draw was released and we found out who Hawkman's 1st round opponent is.

Hawkgirl in Superman (2025) News and Updates

This post follows the journey of Hawkgirl in the DCU from July 11, 2023 ( the day Isabela Merced was announced as Hawkgirl)! It has been confirmed that Hawkgirl will be in the Superman sequel and may also make some more appearances in Peacemaker Season 2.
Here are Isabela Merced's Instagram, IMDb, and Wikipedia pages!
Caution: There are spoilers ahead, so watch the movie and TV shows first!

Hawkgirl Returning for Superman Sequel

It appears that Hawkgirl (played by Isabela Merced) will be returning for the Superman sequel. The sequel is titled Superman Man of Tomorrow and the announced release date is July, 9, 2027.

DC Finest Trade Paperbacks: Finding the Hawkman/Hawkgirl Books

DC Comics announced a new line of trade paperbacks last year, and the DC Finest series has been releasing about three books a month now for almost a year. The first Hawkman book was released in August and the general reception of the books by comics fans seems to be good. Not only are they barraging us with their Trinity but the other heroes are also getting some books out there so this is definitely a step in the right direction. I'm going to start a DC Finest watch for Hawkman books for the blog so if you are looking for the DC Finest books with Hawkman and/or Hawkgirl click the logo below in the right column of the desktop version of the blog and it will bring you back to this page.

Hawkman Book Two has not been announced yet. Will we get a second book that completes Hawkman Vol. 1? That probably depends on how well the first book sells. So get out there and pick it up, Hawkfans!

Thanks but Enough with the Geoff Johns Hawkman Collections

In the current barren age of no Hawkman comics series, it's always appreciated when we get something, anything, that features Hawkman and Hawkgirl. And the last couple of weeks have given us not one but two Hawkman collections. However, the repeated releases once again reminded me of what we continue to wait for. It's not hard for a Hawkman fan to be a Debbie Downer, and this is another of those times.

Hawkman Confirmed to be in DC K.O Tournament

DC Comics announced a new event called DC K.O a few weeks ago. We didn't know for sure who would be in the event, but Dan Mora just released a cover of issue No. 1 and yep, Hawkman is in there. Personally, I kind of tired of seeing heroes going up against heroes, and 31 of the heroes here are going to be defeated in some way, so I have to ask, "Why are we doing this?"

DC Reveals The 32 Contenders Going Head-To-Head In DC K.O.

We don't have the complete draw yet, so we don't know who Hawkman is facing in the first round. I doubt I'll be picking this one up but I'm sure the fans of DC's precious Trinity (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman) will be lining up to buy it. Is anyone outside of the Trinity circle excited for this event? How far do you think Hawkman will go?

First issue comes out on October 8.

The Universe of Hawkman: Single or Multiple Timelines

The Hawk Universe by Tim Board

"Hawkman is confusing." "Hawkman is complicated." "Hawkman is convoluted." The three Cs of Hawkworld continuity. Each statement has become a tiring cliche but articles about Hawkman often start with one of the three statements. Over the years, DC has tried (and failed repeatedly) to streamline their universe for whatever reason. Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinte Crisis, New 52, Flashpoint, Rebirth, Dawn of Dc and on and on it goes.

As a Hawkman fan, I have fully gotten on board with this idea of everything having to be continuous and connected. "Less important" heroes and other characters have often gotten the short end of the stick in these fix-it crisises, and stories like "The Last Days of the Justice Society," Zero Hour Crisis in Time," and "Metal" have been used as quick fixes to plug the holes that the Trinity-favored crisises left behind.

Hawkman Covers: A Showcase of Motion Frozen in Time

Hawkman Vol. 1 No. 12 (Feb-Mar 1966) / Art by Murphy Anderson

Hawkman {May 1964 - September 1968, 27 issues}
Article by Chris Gia

In comics, judging a book by its cover is not only natural, it’s the business model. The cover must command attention instantly, with a distinguishing image on a crowded newsstand.

A powerful cover communicates tone, genre, and urgency before the first panel is even turned. Hawkman’s covers, with their sweeping wingspans and mythic staging, exemplify this principle, demanding the reader not only notice but commit, convinced that what waits inside will soar just as high.

The Modern Comic Age begins in June 1961, when Marvel publishes its first title under the new corporate banner. And it’s one of the greatest artists of all time, Joe Kubert, who reinvented Hawkman for this new, exciting era on Brave and the Bold. However, it was Murphy Anderson, firmly ensconced in DC’s bullpen, who produced 44 covers in total and got the reins to start Hawkman.

How to tell the difference between Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) and Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol).

Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl) and Shayera Hol (Hawkwoman)

The differences between Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) and Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol)! Some fans appear to be confused by which is which so here are the basics. Side note: The Superman movie version has absolutely nothing to do with either of them. Completely unrelated Gunn version. So...sorry DCU fans. That's a whole unrelated matter entirely. It could have been, but the movies decided to go with a version completely new and unrelated to anything in the comics.

Superman Follow-Up Projects Includes Hawkgirl (Possibly)

James Gunn Reveals a Major Detail About Superman Sequel and Broader Plans for ‘Superman Saga’
Talking about the follow-up to the Superman movie, Gunn stated that the characters we will see in the movie will feature the ones we have already met in Superman, and will meet before the follow-up film is released.

Well, this sounds promising. Hawkgirl hasn't been mentioned specifically, but it appears that not will she be appearing again in future Superman movies, but there is also a chance that a project involving her or the Justice Gang is in the works.

DC has yanked that football out from under us before, so I wouldn't hold my breath just yet, but when Hawkfans have to take what we can get, and right, no news or vague updates is better than a solid no. Wing crossed from a big announcement soon. First, I guess we'll have to check into the second season of Peacemaker and see if Hawkgirl has any more of a role than what we have already seen in the trailer. The Peacemaker series started today so check it out!

The DCU's 'Superman' saga will include four movies

Game of Thrones Inspired James Gunn

James Gunn Reveals How Game of Thrones Inspired the DCU

I just read an article of how the Game of Thrones story by George R. R. Martin inspired James Gunn's version of the DCU. Instead of the 1-2-3-4-5-6 format of the MCU, he's going with the 7-2-8-6-4-2-5 format or maybe even the 3-4-5-1-2-3 format of Star Wars to tell his DCU story.

Now I'll be waiting patiently for the Hawkman series to come out in the same style of The Mandalorian. This is the way. I can drem can't I? (Hawkman art by In-Hyuk Lee)

Hawkgirl Scenes from Superman

DapeFury on YouTube just posted a video collecting most of Hawkgirl's scenes from the Superman movie. I'm kind of shocked that it's only a minute and 41 seconds long. Her scenes were a little longer than that, but yeah. We didn't get much of her in the movie. Isabela Merced did make an impact though, so hopefully we'll get to see her story more in future projects. It would be a shame for it to end here.

Isabela Merced Wants a Hawkgirl Movie

Superman is wraping up its run in the theaters and it appears to be the success that James Gunn and company were hoping for. The critics and fan reviews for the movie were pretty good, so we could start seeing some green lights for other projects to start showing up. Isabela Merced's role as Hawkgirl was pretty limited, but she did make an impression with the fans with what she was given to do. The question now is what will come next.

Hawkman is Perfect for DCU's Justice Gang (Collider Article)

Now that Superman's theatrical run is coming to a close, there are a lot of news and rumors coming out about the next heroes to make their debut in the DCU. Since Hawkgirl was in Superman, it's only natural that some of those rumors would involve Hawkman.

Have a Question about Hawkman or Hawkgirl?

Have a question about Hawkman or Hawkgirl?
Ask me anything about Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Hawkwoman, or anything else related to Hawkworld! I’ll do my best to answer and post the question and answer here on Hawkworld.org!

Benjamin Thomas: How do the wings work? I know there are Nth-Metals symbols on the chests, but how the Hawks fly with wings? How do they make them move?
Over the years it's changed a bit, but basically the Nth metal is in the helmet, harness and belt. Currently, it's also in the wings and mace. The Nth metal appears to work differently for the user, but it basically negates gravity, increases strength, and gives healing powers. The wings are more for speed and agility in the air. If Hawkman lost his wings, he could still fly, just not as fast or controlled. The Nth metal is controlled by the mind of whoever is wearing it. So Hawkman can just think, and his wings pop out of his harness or his mace will fly back to him.
The wings are a bit differnt for Hawkman/Hawwoman and Hawkgirl. While Hawkman and Hawkwoman's wings come out of their uniform or harness, Hawkgirl's is more organic and come right out of her back when she needs them. Here's my article on Nth metal. Discovering Nth Metal

How to add Hawkman and Hawkwoman to the DCU

With Superman getting a successful kickoff to the DCU, there will probably be a lot more DCU news coming in the next few months. Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) got enough screen time to make fans want more. Currently, there is no news, rumors or anything else out there that involves the Hawks. The only thing we've seen is that Merced mentioned the desire to see Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders get involved with GreenLantern/John Stewart. What's the best way to get the Hawks involved in the DCU?

Escaping The Hawkgirl and Green Lantern (John Stewart) Mess

Ever since the early 2000s, the relationship between Hawkgirl (Shayera Hol) and Green Lantern (John Stewart) has been a hot topic of debate among Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, DCAU, and comics fans in general. DCAU fans who grew up watching the Justice League cartoon have been wanting for them to get back together, while older, more "traditional" fans (Hawkfans) like myself want to see Hawkgirl back with Hawkman. What's the best way forward for the Hawkfans and DCAU fans? With Hawkworld groups on Reddit, Facebook, Bluesky, and Blogger, I run into this debate often. At the risk of pissing some fans off, I thought I would offer my thoughts and a solution to the whole conundrum.

Hawkman Coming to the Absolute Universe?

I came across this video by @bumpkinstv6722. In the DC solicitations for October, the cover for Absolute Evil No. 1 had Hawkman on the cover. We've been fooled before, so I'm a bit skeptical about him actually appearing in the issue, but the video discesses it in detail and mentions some things I never noticed. What do you guys think?

The issue comes out on October 1st!

The Silent Knight (Hawkman) Appears in the DCU

In the recent Superman movie, there was a scene in the Hall of Justice. Most fans recognized a mural of superheroes on the walls around Hawkgirl and the others and a discussion about who was in the mural quickly spread through the Internet. And now, James Gunn has just posted a complete picture of the entire mural on Instagram.

New History of the DC Universe No. 2: Thanagar Vanishes

Hawkworld Review of New History of the DC Universe No. 2

After a pretty poor effort in explaining the Hawks in the first issue, I was a bit afraid to go into the second issue that covers the silver and bronze issues. But I took the plunge and found just a few references about Hawkman and Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman.

Is Hawkgirl actually in Peacemaker Season 2?

Hawkgirl made an appearance in the trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 a few weeks ago and many people have been talking about her involvement in the Peacemaker series. I have heard that James Gunn himself apparently has said that Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl are added to the series. However, from past experiences, it would be nice to hear something more definite soon. But even then, judging from past DC projects, it's questionable.

Superman has finally been released and the reviews and reactions are coming in! Hawkworld Review of Superman (2025)

Superman was released yesterday (July 11) here in Japan after a long two-year wait. With Hawkgirl getting her first appearance in a movie, following Hawkman's first in Black Adam back in 2022, I was going to see this movie the first chance I got. It had been a busy week and I was exhausted, but I fought the fatigue and drove the 40 minutes to the nearest theater after work.
Note: There are complete spoilers ahead so if you haven't seen the movie, go see it and come back for the review. (Yes, I think you should defintely see it.)

First Reviews Are Looking Good for Superman Starring Hawkgirl!

RottenTomatoes is usually a site or scale I don't give much merit to, but unfortunately it is still the mainstream's place to see if a movie is good or not so I took a look. Comicbookmovie.com put out an article that compared Superman with all the other Superman movies that have come out over the years, and this new movie came out very well! So far, it's right up there with the first Superman movie that came out in 1978, so that's some high praise right there. Hawkgirl is not mentioned in the article, but hopefully she won't be swallowed up by all the other actors and action going on and can leave her definite mark.

Hawkgirl's Screech!

I'll put this in the Hawkgirl movie news post as well, but this deserves a post of its own! Hawkgirl is wheet-shrieking banshee style in the upcoming Superman movie. From what the little snippet shows, I think she nailed it! Here's the short video of her shrieking and then Isabela Merced talking about it in an interview.

Hawkman's Secret Museum

In the current JSA series, there have been several mentions of Hawkman's "Secret Museum." The Injustice Society is doing everything they can to find its location. It appears that it is where Hawkman keeps the dangerous artifacts and weapons that he has collected over the years, including the Spear of Destiny.
Note: Spoilers ahead so come back after you read JSA No. 9!

Funko Pop Releasing Hawkgirl (Superman) Figure on July 11!

It's getting released all over the Internet, but it appears that Funko Pop will be released a Hawkgirl figue based on the upcoming Superman movie. It's a limited edition (5000), and I heard that they don't ship overseas.  I'll have to check on that shipping news because that would be disappointing. I may have to find a friend to pick up one for me or pay for it at several times the cost on ebay. Due out on July 11!

"New Origin of the DC Universe": Screwing Up Hawkman. Again.

Back in March, DC Comics announced a new 4-issue series called the "New History of the DC Universe." DC "superfan" Mark Waid would write the history and several top artists would be doing the artwork for the series. This would be a massive undertaking and I wondered how they would handle Hawkman and Hawkgirl's history, if they even cover it at all.

The first issue came out on June 25. And wow... I was shocked at several things  as I read the book. I don't know about the other charcters, but if Hawkman and Hawkgirl are any indication, this book is an absolute mess. The art is great but they totally screwed up or tried to change the history of the Hawks and even contradicted themselves with their own endnotes. As a Hawkfan, I have questions and also need to set some things straight for those who were as confused as I was and came here for some clarity. There are spoilers ahead and if you still want to read it after that intro, come back after you have read it.

The History of the Live-Action Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Since 1979, Hawkman and Hawkgirl have gradually entered the live action scenes of superheroes. While they have yet to get their own mainstream feature, they have have several versions over the years. In my opinion, they have yet to get it right, but maybe someday we will get a movie studio, director, producer, writer and actor who love the characters and do their best to bring us an accurate version that will thrill true Hawkfans. We haven't seen that happen yet but I'm sure it will happen someday.  In the meantime, I've gathered together all of the versions that I've come across over the years. I hope you enjoy the flight!

Thirty-nine years ago, on January 19 and 26, 1979, NBC broadcast "Legends of the Superheroes", a two-part special with several DC heroes and villains. This was also the show that gave us our first live-action Hawkman. Do you know how many men and women have played Hawkman and Hawkgirl over the years? While live-action Batman actors are almost too numerous to count, the number who have played the Winged Wonders on silver or small screens have been few and far between. Let's take a look at the actors who have played the Hawks over the years.
