The Claw of Horus Returns in DC K.O.

Scott Snyder's absolutely madhouse event, DC K.O., continues in issue No. 2, and the second round plays out. In this round, 32 heroes and villains have to obtain one of the sixteen most powerful items in the DC universe in order to advance to the next round. And lo and behold, Hawkman's Claw of Horus is one of those items!

Everyone makes a mad dash for an item. Guy Gardner goes for the Claw of Horus, but Hawkman snatches it from him at the last minute. Hawkman is never threatened or challenged after that, so he survives the round with the Claw of Horus. If I can go by the solicitations, he will meet Aquaman in Aquaman No. 12, and if the solicitations are to be trusted. Hawkman will be defeated by Aquaman there. By the way, Aquaman's Trident wasn't one of the weapons, which was a bit surprising.

I wrote an article about the history and abilities of the Claw of Horus a few years ago and sadly, this amazing weapon has been used sparingly. I believe the last time we saw it in a comic was in Dark Days The Forge in August, 2017. The last time it was used was in Brightest Days No. 18-19 (April 2011). You can read the full article about the history and abilities of the weapon HERE

It is an incredibly powerful weapon that was made out of Nth Metal by Prince Khufu (Hawkman), Teth-Adam (Black Adam), and Nabu (Doctor Fate) thousands of years ago. In Superman/Batman No. 4 (January 2004), there is one of my favorite scenes with the Claw. Superman tries to take Hawkman up into the stratosphere to make him pass out (forgetting Hawkman can survive for a limited in outer space), but Hawkman whips the Claw right out and knocks the daylights out of Suprman with it, saying he just Superman with a planet.

This story was also made into a DC animated movie back in 2009.

Now that Hawkman has the Claw of Horus, will he get to use it in his battle against Aquaman? I sure would like to see that. I'm not familiar with Aquaman's current powers, but he would have a hard time defeating Hawkman if the later had a weapon strong enough to knock out Superman.

It was nice to see Hawkman's ultimate weapon again and I hope it isn't another 14 years before we see it actually used.  But just seeing the Claw of Horus made getting DC K.O. No. 2 worthwhile.
