Absolute Universe's Hawkman Vs. Superman

DC Comics' solicitations came out this weekend and we found out that the Absolute Hawkman will be going up against the Absolute Superman in Absolute Superman No. 16 (release date Feb. 4). Here's what it says.

Superman finds himself at the forefront of a bold new age of heroes in the Absolute Universe, but he quickly learns that he wasn't the world's first super-powered protector. Enter Hawkman, who has a few tips for the new kid, whether he wants to hear them or not!

So Hawkman, who started out as a hero but is now completely gone over to the other side, is now going after Superman. I can unnderstand how Hawkman would be able to take out Green Arrow (Absolute Evil No. 1) but this is a whole different story. How powerful is the Absolute Universe's Hawkman? His wings appear to be all metal now and he has a a freakin' huge mace. His face is wrapped up like a mummy and he is wearing what looks like Blackhawk uniform.

We've already see this back in the Injustice series. Hawkman made a mace out of Kryptonite and came after Superman because he was pissed off that Hawkgirl had joined Superman's team and wasn't coming home. He was a class A jerk in this series but he actually was a couple of blows away from finishing Superman off. If Flash hadn't snatched the mace away from him, he might have succeeded. Instead, Superman recovered enough for one punch to kill Hawkman right off.

Is this Hawkman more powerful? I really don't see how the outcome is going to be any different. We are getting some more shot of the Absolute Hawkman and he does look Absolute-ly badass. The cover by Rafa Sadoval is fantastic with the contrast of Hawkman's wings and Superman's cape. There are also some art of Hawkman by Juan Ferreyra.

He looks like the love child of the Mummy and a Predator who is cosplaying as Blackhawk, Hawkman and Marvel's Archangel all at once. While I will keep an eye on this story, I really don't see anything besides Hawkman's humiliating death. Embrace the Evil, I suppose. Stay tuned, but only if you're a masochist.
