Petition to Keep Hawkman Soaring!
SIGN THE PETITION
Hawkman Vol. V was started in June 2018. Since then, the series has received outstanding reviews and has been steadily building a devout fan base. Through the Hawkworld fan group on Twitter and Facebook, many fans have expressed their love for the soaring odyssey that writer Robert Venditti has created. It has recently been reported that DC Comics is canceling the series with issue No. 29, which comes out in November, with no announcement of a replacement. This series cannot end now. Over the last two years, Venditti has revitalized one of the most iconic characters in comic book history and fans are hoping to see the story continue. This petition is for fans of the comic to express their support for the comic to continue, whether it be in paper or digital form. With this petition, we can show DC Comics how much the series is loved and enjoyed by fans who have followed Hawkman and DC Comics for many years. Let's keep Hawkman soaring!

Board Review of Hawkman No. 26: Hawks Eternal Conclusion: Death of a Thousand Hawks
The soaring journey of exploration and discovery across time and space with Hawkman and Hawkwoman has come to an end, and another has begun. What an amazing journey it has been so far. Starting from the islands of Greece, we saw ancient Egypt, the Feitheran's Dinosaur Island, the floating cities of Thanagar, Atom's Microverse, the Hawktastic Soarship, the destruction of Krypton, a battle for Earth over London, an endless war on Nebulen, the dark Shadowlands, the familiar Midway City, the gargantuan tomb of Titan Hawk, and finally the temple of the Lord of the Void on Qgga.

Hawkman Unleased Part Three: Soaring to New Heights

Hawkman Unleashed Part One: The Reason and The Components of a Hero
On March 14, 2018, the new Hawkman series by Robert Venditti was announced. About a month after the announcement, I had the huge privilege of joining Rob and Jace Milam on The Comic Source podcast to talk about the upcoming series.
During the podcast, Jace said, "...ten, fifteen years from now when someone asks Tim which Hawkman run he should read and Tim says, "Read Venditti's run. That's where it's at."
We're two years into the run and I'm there. Rob's run on Hawkman has become the definitive run for comic book fans to find out about Hawkman. There have been many great series in the history of Hawkman and this does not take anything away from those fantastic stories. But Venditti's run has brought it all together, connected everything, and explained the great characters of Hawkman and Hawkwoman. This is the fifth series titled Hawkman and usually, it would be Vol. 5, but since the very beginning, I've been calling it Vol. V in honor of Venditti. For the third and final article, let's take a look at what Venditti has brought to the origin/purpose, secret identity, love, powers, weapons, locations, villains, supporting cast, and death/reincarnation of Hawkman.

Hawkman Unleashed Part Two: Breaking Down Hawkman's History
By Tim Board
During Hawkman's 80-year history, he has had seven series, four mini-series, many special one-shot editions, and several runs in other comics. If we gave Hawkman comics a legacy count, we'll reach No. 250 in September 2020. (Check out the list here.) That's pretty low for a character that has been around that long. Hawkman seems to be a character that is impossible to ignore as a concept, but the concept has proved to be difficult to put onto the comic book pages for whatever reason. In Hawkman Unleashed Part One, I listed nine things that should be included in a Hawkman comic: origin/purpose, secret identity, love, powers, weapons, locations, villains, supporting cast, and death/reincarnation. In Hawkman Unleashed Part Two, let's take a look through the history of Hawkman comics and see how each series included the nine components.

Hawkman Unleashed Part One: The Reason and The Components of a Hero
By Tim Board
In my mind, Hawkman is the greatest comic book character ever created. Now before all the Batman and Spider-man fans scoff, curse, and click away, let me explain why I think this way. We all love comics. We love how a certain character or story grabbed our attention, our interest, and finally our heart and never let go. For me, that character is Hawkman. For you, it might be Wonder Woman or Captain America. And that is perfectly fine. Somewhere, somehow, that character became rooted in your consciousness and stayed. Every time you see the image of that character, your heart immediately starts beating faster. You'll remember your favorite stories where the character lifted you up. Or you may even feel enraged, as you remember a story where you feel your hero was mistreated. But that's why comic books will never go away. These characters have become a part of our identity, and they keep us young until our dying day.

Board Review of Hawkman No. 25: Hawks Eternal Part Two: Taking Lives
At the end of the last issue, we were left with the phrase "The Power of a Thousand Lifetimes." My guess was that both Hawkman and Hawkwoman would call their former lives to the present in the way Hawkman did when he took down the Deathbringers to fight the Lord of the Void (LOTV). That's not what happened. We got a long-awaited reveal, a puzzling comment about a weapon, and the true meaning of the aforementioned phrase. Slight spoilers ahead!

The Greatest Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman Stories
By Tim Board
On April 25, 1941, in All-Star Comics No. 5, Shiera Sanders became Hawkgirl for the first time, and so began the story of one of the most famous and recognizable characters in the history of DC Comics. Hawkgirl may have been a sort of sidekick to Hawkman in the beginning, but she is no man's sidekick now. She is one of the most interesting and powerful characters in comics, with her own set of powers, abilities, and history. I could have gone into her history to celebrate Hawkgirl Day 2020, but this year I thought I would list my favorite Hawkgirl stories. I'm sure every Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman fan has their own favorites, so my apologies in advance if they aren't on the list. I also tried to do a countdown of best stories, but that proved to be difficult since I like them equally. So here are my favorite Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman stories in chronological order. Let us know which is your favorite in the comments!

Board Review of Hawkman No. 21: Death's Doorway Part Two: The Key
Great Polaris! That was fun! Hawkman No. 21 continues the
Sky Tyrant saga and this issue was a blast. At the end of the last issue, we were
on an unnamed planet where a key is locked away and guarded by a huge, we’re
talking gargantuan, guardian of the grave of one of Hawkman’s former lives
called the Titan Hawk. Sky Tyrant wants this key to unlock a weapon that will cause
widespread death across the universe and ensure that his reincarnating will
continue forever.

Board Review of Hawkman No. 20: Death's Doorway Part One: Passengers
![]() |
Cover by Pat Olliffe, Tom Palmer, Jeremiah Skipper |
The Sky Tyrant saga has become a battle between a
Deathbringer and a Lifebringer. Ever since he accepted the “gift” of
reincarnation, Hawkman’s mission has been to save lives, to save as many people
as he took as the general of Lord of the Void’s Deathbringers. Once he completes
that task, his next death will be his last. You could say that he has become a
Lifebringer. Meanwhile, the Sky Tyrant is from Earth-3, where everything is
backward, so when Hawkman was reincarnated on Earth-3, he was born evil. He
was a Deathbringer again. As we saw in Hawkman No. 18, he was killed by a group
of heroes led by Shadow Sheriff. But ever since then, he has been in the
consciousness of the other Hawkmen who came after him, watching them save lives
and bring their lives to an end, including Sky Tyrant. When the Batman Who
Laughs infected Hawkman, Sky Tyrant took the opportunity to take over again,
vowing to take as many lives as he can and live forever.
