Hawkworld Discussions: Does Nth Metal work the same for everybody?

This Week's Discussion: Over the years, we've seen DC Comics' Nth Metal give Hawkman and Hawkgirl various powers.

Does the power of the Nth Metal vary with who is wearing it?
How much of the individual's will is involved?
Does the power increase with how much they are wearing?
Can Hawkman and Hawkgirl absorb the nth metal into their bodies?

Collection of Nth Metal info HERE

I'll post the best replies from the various Hawkworld communities below!

DC's Hawk-Girl Summer Review

Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) scores the cover and leading story in DC's latest anthology, a pretty rare feat for a Hawk character. Anthology stories are usually just extremely light reading, but if the writer is good enough, they can add to a character's story and history within the 12 pages they have. Did DC accomplish that here? Let's take a look. Spoilers ahead, so come back after you've read the comic!

This post follows the journey of Hawkgirl in the DCU from July 11, 2023 ( the day Isabela Merced was announced as Hawkgirl)! It has been confirmed that Hawkgirl will be in the Superman sequel and may also make some more appearances in Peacemaker Season 2.

Absolute Hawkman Redemption in Absolute Superman No. 20

Absolute Hawkman / Carter Hall in Absolute Superman No. 20 (August 2026)

SPOILER ALERT! As a Hawkman fan, it has been very difficult to like what DC Comics is doing to the character in their Absolute Superman series. Hawkman first appeared in Absolute Evil No. 1 last year, and there is absolutely nothing to like about this character as a hero or a person. He is a murderer and a traitor, and he has become the muscle for the villains of this universe's Earth. So when this issue kicked off the way it did, I'm left with conflicting feelings, most of them not so good. This review is a spoiler, so please come back after you have read the issue.

DC Comics' Thanagar Confusion

DC Comics has a Thanagar problem. Or to put it more accurately, Thanagar has a DC Comics problem. The apparent lack of vision and planning for Thanagar is truly baffling. In this article, I'll try to explain what is going on with the current Thanagar. But it isn't easy because DC Comics either has no real plan, or they just aren't explaining it enough for the comics fans, and more importantly, for the Hawkfans to know what in the seven hells is going on. But I'll give it a shot.

Ten Pillars for a Great Hawkman and Hawkwoman Series

Hawkman and Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl have the foundation any writer would need to create a great story and series. Over the last 87 years,  the story and legend of the Hawks have been greatly expanded. Many characters, places, items, and theories have been introduced, but very few have been allowed to become the rock-solid base that other major DC characters enjoy. Writers like Gardner Fox, Tony Isabella, Timothy Truman, John Ostrander, Geoff Johns, and Robert Venditti have given us many stories that are the pillars of the Hawks' legend. Here are the ten basic pillars, in my opinion, that any writer could and should expand on to create some amazing stories and adventures for Hawkman and Hawkwoman.

Hawkworld Review of JSA No. 18

The beginning of the Justice Society has been going on for about six issues, but we finally got to see the original members, plus Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman, join forces to defeat Ultra-Humanite in this flashback story. It felt like a new version of the Justice Society's origin that we know so well, but in the end, writer Jeff Lemire managed to fit all the pieces in without messing up the original story.

Hawkman Burning His Wings

What the Thanagarian Snare Beast is this? I just came across Bleeding Cool's article about the aftermath of DC K.O. (hating that event more and more) and saw this. Can someone who actually reads Justice League Unlimited explain this to me?

Also, last I checked, Hawkman's wings are Nth metal. They can block fire, lasers, and bullets. They don't burn.

If anyone knows the details of this story, let us know in the comments.

Looking Back at Hawkworld 2025

The Year 2025 is coming to a close, so it's time to take a look back at some of Hawkworld's highlights and lowlights of the year. Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and even Hawkwoman continued to appear in comics here and there throughout the year, including the JSA series, some unannounced cameos, and a few covers and variant covers. Hawkgirl made her silver screen debut in Superman, the horrid Absolute Hawkman appeared, and the wait for a Hawkman series entered its sixth year. I've made a list of highs and lows for the year. If you have a certain highlight or lowlight you would like to add, please leave it in the comments below! And now, the highlights first...

Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hawkman Version)

"'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hawkman Version)"
By Clement Clarke Moore / Revised by Tim Board (@Hawkworld_)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Thanagarian Snare Mouse
The DC Classic figures lined up on the mantle with care
In hopes that Hawkman soon would be there

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Nth metal danced in their heads
And mamma in her gown, and I in my Hawkman logo cap
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap

Horus, God of the Nth Metal

Green Lantern Corps No. 3 (June 2025)

Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, has been an important part of Hawkman and Hawkgirl's story ever since their very first appearances in Flash Comics No. 1 (January 1940). Over the years, Horus has changed and evolved in many ways. This year, Horus has suddenly made a couple of interesting appearances so let's take a look at the god who has a very important connection to Hawkman and the Nth Metal.

'Pinions and Rants (December 2025)

November 2025 has come and come, and it is now over five years since Hawkman has had his own series. Robert Venditti's series ran for 29 issues from 2018 to 2021 (cover dates) and left Hawkman and Hawkwoman in a really, really good place. They had been reunited, were completely devoted and committed to each other, and their reincarnation was over and done with. Hawkman was Dr. Carter Hall, renowned archaeologist on Earth, while Hawkwoman was Shayera Hol, Empress and Protector of the Thanagarians. They had a super awesome spaceship called the Soarship. They were members of the Justice Society. They were given an extremely long life span (as long as they don't get killed for the last time), and they were now ready to live their final life together...and then...nothing.

Nine Random Wheets of a Hawkfan #20251204

Random Hawkman/Hawkgirl Wheets 12-4-2025

*Hawkman can go shirtless because he doesn't feel cold. The Nth metal protects him.
*As a hero, Hawkman flies high in the sky. As an archaeologist, he goes far underground. Interesting contrast.

The Claw of Horus Returns in DC K.O.

Scott Snyder's absolutely madhouse event, DC K.O., continues in issue No. 2, and the second round plays out. In this round, 32 heroes and villains have to obtain one of the sixteen most powerful items in the DC universe in order to advance to the next round. And lo and behold, Hawkman's Claw of Horus is one of those items!

Hawkman: Decades Old, Forever Young

Art by Adam Kubert

Celebrating Hawkman Day has been a tradition at Hawkworld for a decade now. This month we are celebrating the 86 years of Hawkman, and in January we are also celebrating the 10th annniversary of our Hawkman/Hawkgirl group called Hawkworld. Our Hawkman Day celebration has gradually become recognized, and it has even been mentioned in The Forgotten All-Star: A Biography of Gardner Fox by Jennifer DeRoss.

Hawkman first appeared in Flash Comics No. 1. The cover date is January 1940, but the release was in November 1939. There is some debate about the exact day when the comic was released. The house ad from 1939 says "About Nov. 10th," but the Grand Comics Database says the following; "The on-sale date of November 20, 1939 is the publication date reported in filings with the U. S. Copyright Office. However, a house ad in Action Comics #19 states the issue was to be on sale on November 10." So either date works. At Hawkworld, we've settled on November 20th.

Nine Random Thoughts of a Hawkfan #20251117

*Hawkman is a warrior who has reincarnated on Earth and many other planets across time and space. If he learned one fighting technique in each life on all those planets, and if he only remembered only half of them, that would still make him one of, if not the most skilled hand-to-hand combat fighter in the world.

Random Thoughts of a Hawkfan #251105

Random thoughts of a Hawkfan #251105

With Nth metal, Hawkman can go on for days, even weeks without sleep.

Hawkman is the expert pilot, while Hawkwoman is the expert mechanic.

Hawkman's favorite food is sandwiches. He also loves a good Baby Ruth.
