Hawkman Refused to be a Dictator. Twice.

World's Finest Comics No. 278 (April 1982)

Hawkman got tossed into a political discussion earlier this month when Absolute Evil No. 1 came out. The issue showed him as a traitor to his fellow heroes and Americans, and then as the murderer of Green Arrow and a full-blown villain assisting the other villains of that universe. Even though the precious DC Trinity are still basically themselves, just under different circumstances, DC completely destroyed the Hawkman of the Absolute universe and made him a despicable character who will probably meet his end badly.

Does This Guy Like Hawkman or Not?

Art by Inhyuk Lee

There's a site called comicbook.com which puts out pretty good articles at times about comics and anything related. I'm sure anyone who reads up on comics news has gone to the site many times. Another article involving Hawkman popped up today so I thought I'd share it because I'm thoroughly confused by what the intent was.

The article is titled "10 Most Important DC Characters Who Aren’t Superman, Batman Or Wonder Woman" and sure enough, Hawkman comes in on the list at No. 10.  "Oh, cool!," I thought. Nice to get some recognition! But then I started reading.

Video of Essential Hawkman and Hawkgirl Comics

A YouTube channel called Comic Belief put together a 16-minute video of a list of essesntial Hawkman and Hawkgirl comics. It starts from 1940 and goes all the way to the recent destruction of Thanagar in the Green Lantern comic. Some comics that I wouldn't have thought of are listed so it's a good list! Check it out!

Jeremy Adams Talks Hawkman and Hawkwoman

I came across this video today of Jeremy Adams talking comics at the New York Comic Con 2025. He mentioned Hawkman and Hawkwoman a few times so I'll put the comments down below (or you can watch the entire video).

Hawkman was Set Up Beautifully, and DC Comics Put It Away

The day was March 15, 2018. That was an exciting day in the history of Hawkman. Washington Post announced the return of our favorite winged wonder. It was going to be written by Robert Venditti and drawn by Bryan Hitch. It was the beginning of a wonderful adventure that lasted almost three years. Hawkman Twitter blew up that day, with many Hawkman fans talking about the new series that was announced. Even Venditti and Hitch were surprised by the reception the news received.
