Hawkgirl Day 2026

80th Anniversary Montage by Tim Board

On April 25, 1941, an iconic character was created by legendary writer Gardner Fox. Shiera Sanders started out as Hawkman/Carter Hall's love interest and supporting character, but that's not how the story ended. Eighteen months after Shiera's first appearance in Flash Comics No. 1 in November 1939, she put on the Hawk costume for the first time to help Hawkman trick some criminals. That was the small beginning, but it gradually became something much, much bigger. Over the years, Hawkgirl has evolved from a "sidekick" to Hawkman's equal, and even superior in many cases. Thanks to her appearances on TV cartoons and in the movies, her popularity may even be greater than Hawkman's. That's a testament to her rich history, her many interpretations over the years, and a fascination that many writers, artists, creators, and directors have had with a superheroine with beautiful wings, a wicked mace, a bad-ass attitude that doesn't fool around, and an ability to step out of Hawkman's shadow and become her own character.

DC Comics Solicitations July 2026 for Hawkman and Hawkgirl

DC Comics' solicitations for July 2026 are out. Hawkman and Hawkgirl appear on a few covers, and "Hawk-Girl" (?) has some sort of summer anthology story coming out, but that's about it. It's not much, but it's not nothing either. The only mention of the Hawks is the "Hawk HYPHEN Girl" (?) summer book so beware of the covers and variant covers which could be misleading. The wait for a Hawkman series continues.

Hawkworld Review of JSA No. 18

The beginning of the Justice Society has been going on for about six issues, but we finally got to see the original members, plus Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman, join forces to defeat Ultra-Humanite in this flashback story. It felt like a new version of the Justice Society's origin that we know so well, but in the end, writer Jeff Lemire managed to fit all the pieces in without messing up the original story.

"Does This Come In Chromium?" Podcast Interview

I had the privilege of talking about all things Hawkman and Hawkgirl with Matt Anderson on his podcast, "Does This Come In Chromium! The interview started with Matt's interest in the famous Hawkman No. 1 "gold chromium" cover from 1993, but covered all sorts of Hawkman and Hawkgirl topics. Matt really knows his stuff, and it was great fun talking to him. Click the link or the pic to go to the podcast interview! Let us know in the comments what you thought of the interview, or maybe some questions you have after listening to it.

Hawkman Burning His Wings

What the Thanagarian Snare Beast is this? I just came across Bleeding Cool's article about the aftermath of DC K.O. (hating that event more and more) and saw this. Can someone who actually reads Justice League Unlimited explain this to me?

Also, last I checked, Hawkman's wings are Nth metal. They can block fire, lasers, and bullets. They don't burn.

If anyone knows the details of this story, let us know in the comments.
