Hawkman Day 2018: Taking Flight

"As I sat by the window I noticed a bird collecting twigs for a nest. The bird would swoop down, pick up the twig, and fly away. I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great if the bird was a lawman and the twig a crook!?'"
---Gardner Fox, Creator of Hawkman
Flash Comics No. 1 (Released November 10, 1939)

With Hawkman, Time is Relative

Been thinking about the time theory that Robert Venditti brought up in Hawkman No. 5; the theory of how time is like an ocean, with all the past, present and futures floating on top. For regular people like us, and even most comic book characters, space is accessible. We can stay in one place, or we can go up, down, forward, backward, and side to side. But the one thing that we can't escape from is time. We can't go back or forward, we are prisoners in our own time. Our past selves are there, and our future selves are there. But we cannot access it. We're prisoners of the now, Edna Mode-style.

Just Like Old Times: Board Review of Hawkman No. 5

Hawkman No. 5 by Robert Venditti and Bryan Hitch was a comic book that made you remember how special a friendship can be. Over the last four months, Hawkfans have been enthralled by the adventures of Hawkman as he travels through ancient Greece, London, Egypt, Dinosaur Island, Thanagar, Indonesia and now the Microverse. In this issue, that all seemed to take a back seat to the friendship of Carter Hall and Ray Palmer. And we didn't mind at all.
Note: This review is full of spoilers so come back after you've read the book!

Hawkman and The Atom: An Enduring Friendship

By Tim Board, Hawkworld
Art by Bryan Hitch and Alex Sinclair

Hawkman and the Atom, aka Carter Hall/Katar Hol and Ray Palmer, have shared one of the strongest friendships in the DC Universe since their first meeting back in 1963. Ever since their first adventure, the two have shared a bond that has stood the test of time. In the current Hawkman series by Robert Venditti and Bryan Hitch, the two have finally been brought back together. At the end of Hawkman No. 4, Carter Hall was transported to the microverse and finds Ray Palmer there. In issues No. 5 and No. 6, it appears that the two heroes will be battling side by side once again. I’ve gathered together significant scenes from their history, the comic book covers they have shared, and special art and figures that feature the two heroes. It's long. I hope you enjoy the walk through their history.

Exploring and Discovering Hawkman: Board Review of Hawkman No. 4

The Hawkman series by Robert Venditti and Bryan Hitch is an absolute joyride. From issue one, they have taken the 79-year-old superhero and given the veteran Hawkfans what they have been asking for for a very long time, and at the same time they have managed to craft a story and art that has comic book fans not familiar with the hero surprised and loving what they have discovered. Ever since the news got out that Carter Hall would be running into Katar Hol in the skies over Thanagar, fans have been eagerly anticipating the meeting and we were not disappointed. Let's get right into a spoiler-rich review of Hawkman No. 1 (released September 12). If you haven't read the comic yet, do yourself a favor and go enjoy the comic first.

Remembering Katar Hol of Hawkworld

By Tim Board
With the big reveal of Katar Hol at the end of Hawkman No. 3 (released Aug. 8) and the possibility of a battle between Hol and Carter Hall in Hawkman No. 4 (out on Sept 12), Hawkfans are eagerly looking forward to the issue. At the end of the last issue, Carter Hall was transported to Thanagar and found himself standing on the shoulder of the Kalmoran statue and Katar Hol telling him he was under arrest. There's no telling what kind of battle is going to happen in the skies over Thanagar! But before we get there, let's take a look back at the character of Katar Hol and remember who he was.
