Hawkman, Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman Costumes Through the Years

A couple of years ago, I used the art from the DC Microheroes site and made a chart of all the looks that the Hawkman have had over the years. Just by looking at a costume, I think most comic book fans can tell what era it is from. Which is your favorite look for Hawkman and Hawkgirl?

Hawkman Comics 1939-2023

Here is a link to a list of all the #Hawkman, #Hawkgirl, #Hawkwoman comics and also comics that include important moments in their history. When did Hawkman first use his mace? When did Hawkgirl change her name to Hawkwoman? When did Kendra first appear? I've tried to include all the issues and important moments in their history, so hopefully this will serve as a reference source for the comic book fans who are looking for the Hawks. Currently, there are over 600 comics on the list. Click the screenshot of the worksheet below and it will take you there. Feel free to ask questions or point out something that I may have missed.

The Hawks Set to Return in a New Justice Society Series

After years of teases, cameos, and even a canceled Geoff Johns/Bryan Hitch project, it appears that the Justice Society is finally returning. DC Comics announced the solicitations for November 2022 and the JSA was in the lineup. There will be a one-shot issue released on November 8. Details below the cover art!

And then two weeks later, a regular series by Geoff Johns kicks off.

From the Justice Society of America to the Legion of Super-Heroes, The New Golden Age will unlock DC's epic and secret-ridden history of heroism, launching a new group of titles set firmly in the DC Universe. From the 1940s to the 3040s, heroes take on the great evils of their time. But in the aftermath of Flashpoint Beyond, those heroes and villains will have their lives turned upside down. DC's future…and its past…will never be the same again. But how are Mime and Marionette connected to this? Why are Rip Hunter and the Time Masters the most unlikable heroes in the DC Universe? And who or what is…Nostalgia? Don't miss the start of the strangest mystery to have ever plagued the DC Universe.

Justice Society of America #1

The JSA returns in this monthly series by writer Geoff Johns and artist Mikel Janín with "Justice Society of America: The New Golden Age Part One"! The world's first and greatest superheroes return! Or do they? A long-lost hero from the JSA crashes into our era with a grave warning… but it's too late. A mysterious and malevolent enemy has invaded the entire history of the JSA, and an all-new team must come together to defeat it. But what deadly secret does this messenger from beyond keep? Where are they from? And why is all of this happening now? Only the Time Masters know…

It's been a long wait, but it appears that the JSA is finally coming back. Let's keep our fingers crossed for no cancelations or changes of plans. Let's hope Jim Lee can resist changing the series' name to Batman and the Justice Society before it comes out! Here are some more articles from other sites:

Hawkman Review 2021: A Year of Cameos, Flashbacks, Teases, Deaths, and Waiting

The Year 2021 was a typical between-series year for Hawkman; cameos, flashbacks, unfulfilled teases, panel fillers, several deaths, and solicitations that delivered nothing. Hawkgirl had a bit more this year in the Justice League series, but Hawkwoman made only one appearance. Hawkman also made appearances in two DC animated films but both were massive disappointments. Below is a summary of all the appearances the Hawks made this year.

"Leaving the Hawkman Toy Box Full"

Hawkman doesn't sell as well as some other comics. There's no denying that fact. There are several reasons for that of course. DC Comics barely promoted the recent Hawkman series after the first couple of issues. After starting with over 40k in sales, the lack of promotion, the uninspired Year-of-the-Villain event, the pandemic, and other things gradually pulled the series down to around 12k in sales and it was finally canceled after 29 issues. One of the reasons could be that many don't like the looks, background, or overall setup of Hawkman. There can be many reasons.
When a writer takes on Hawkman his job is to make Hawkman a relatable, exciting, attractive character. He can maybe give the character a new look, new powers, a new origin, a new base of operations, a new lover, new villains, etc. He can reach into that hero's past and change and "improve" him in a way that he thinks will make the character better than before. That's just common sense. That's what every writer wants to do. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Hawkman and Hawkwoman's Choice (Screen Rant Article)

Screen Rant is not my favorite site for comic book articles, but once in a while, they put out a good one. Here is an article by Wesley Smith that came out right after Hawkman No. 26 came out last year. It talks about the scene where Hawkman finally earns his redemption and is freed from the curse of reincarnation. It is a short but beautiful scene where we can see the love that Hawkman and Hawkwoman have for each other. Check out the issue and the article! LINK
