July 4th may be "Independence Day" in America, but it's Impossible Day at Hawkworld! Let's take a look at the Thanagarian tradition that first appeared in The Brave and the Bold No. 44 (November 1962).
In issue No. 42, Shayera has begun to get homesick. Even the festive Independence Day celebrations at Midway City don't cheer her up, so Katar suggests they do the traditional Impossible Day instead. In this issue, we find out a few things about Thanagar.
*Shayera's ancestor is Rhon Dhu, a former emperor of Thanagar whose lineage goes all the way back to Kalmoran, the founder of Thanagar.
*Rhon Dhu started the tradition of doing three "impossible" things on this day to celebrate Thanagar.
*It is a tradition to have a picnic during the day.
*Shayera fixed some sandwiches for Katar, one of his favorite Earth foods. We find out that Thanagar does not have sandwiches. I've heard the theory that Thanagar has such rocky terrain, it is almost impossible to grow wheat or other crops on the planet.
Katar and Shayera did three "impossible" things to celebrate the day.
1. They made it rain upward.
2. They threw lightning at a getaway car.
3. They followed an invisible object to capture a thief.
All three feats seemed impossible, but Katar and Shayera proved how knowledgeable they were by solving all three with science. Their intellect and knowledge are often underestimated, but with the Absorbascon as a backup when needed, they have forgotten more than Batman will ever know.

So if you're not an American, or you're just not up to celebrating "Independence" Day this year, go out and do something impossible! And don't forget to take some sandwiches for a picnic!
