There is a site in the UK called DC World. One of their features is called "Confessions of a DC Geek." They asked me to answer some questions about my history with DC and about some of the DC things in my possession. The feature went up today so here's the link! There are also a lot of other cool features on the site! Link: Confessions of a DC Geek #14

The History of Kalmoran
“Kalmoran!” In Hawkman Vol. V No. 2, Carter
Hall found himself back in time, fighting Prince Khufu, one of his former
selves. Towards the end of the fight, for a reason he didn’t know, Carter
uttered the word “Kalmoran” and Khufu immediately stopped fighting. With one
word, Khufu realized Carter was not his enemy and even helped him out by
telling him where a map was hidden. So, what is this word “Kalmoran?” Long-time
Hawkfans will know the meaning of the word but let’s look back and remember
what, or rather, who Kalmoran was.

Board Review of Hawkman Vol. V No. 2
As I sat down to read Hawkman No. 2, I
found myself feeling the same way I do when I sit down to watch a movie that I
know, from all the word of mouth and previews, is going to be good. We are only two issues into Robert Venditti’s Hawkman
series, but this is what many Hawkman fans have been wanting for a very long
time. Geoff John’s run in Hawkman Vol. 4 (2002-2004) is often called the best
version of Hawkman since the Gardner Fox-Joe Kubert days, but in my opinion
this series is already on its way to surpassing it. The writing by Venditti and
the art of Bryan Hitch has brought Carter Hall/Hawkman to where Hawkfans have always
wanted him. The Indiana Jones comparisons have been made often over the years
but it’s about time someone finally fully embraced that connection instead of
trying to avoid it. Here are my thoughts on the issue and it is a completely
spoiler rich review, so feel free to come back after you’ve read the issue.

Identifying the Hawkmen from Hawkman No. 1

Board Review of Hawkman Vol. V No. 1
The
first issue of Hawkman finally arrived this week. As a Hawkman fan, the last
three months have been a time of speculating, hoping and guessing about what
the new series will bring us. Over the course of the last three months, I have
had the pleasure of meeting writer Robert Venditti on Twitter and later on The
Comic Source podcast, tweeting and talking with him about what he is planning
for the new series. The more news I heard, and the more information I received,
the feeling that something special was going to be starting on June 13th gradually intensified as the release day approached. It’s
been three days since I first saw the book, and I have to admit that as a
Hawkman fan, I was disappointed. I was disappointed in the fact that I had held
my expectations too low. Nothing prepared me for what I experienced on June 13th.
Let me get into the details of the book, and I’ll explain more about what I
mean at the end.

Reviews for Hawkman No. 1
Hawkman No. 1 is finally released! There have been a flurry of reviews coming out of everywhere. The best reviews I've read today are by Doug Zwaisza at Comicosity and Louie Hlad at The Beat.
Doug says: "Rest assured, fellow Hawkfans, Hawkman #1 is worth the wait. Venditti and Hitch, along with inker Andrew Currie, colorist Alex Sinclair, and the Comicraft lettering crew, have given us a comic that stands proudly alone, yet pays wonderful, loving homage to everything that has gone before." Link to Article
Louie says: "Let’s all make an agreement with the creative team of Hawkman #1 right now, okay? Let’s promise to judge the book on its own merits as a fresh start, not by whether it matches our favorite incarnation of the character exactly or (worse) by whether it makes any sense of that tangled web of nonsense. They’ve signed up for a hell of a job, we can grant them some latitude. But we’re going to ask for something in return. We, the bruised and weary fans, have a list of demands for the new creative team." Link to Article
