Hawkman by Eric Meador
A couple of years ago, I got one of the biggest thrills I've experienced since starting over ten years ago. Eric Meador alerted me to a Hawkman piece he had done. This amazing art he created is reason enough, but he added my name to a sign on a building (bottom right). It says TBoard. I was beyond flabbergasted. But he wasn't finished.
To the right of my name, it says "Accipiter Mundi," which basically means Hawkworld in Latin. To my knowledge and the limited power of my poor memory, this is the first time I've been added to an art piece featuring Hawkman. I wasn't able to pick this up at the time, but acquiring this piece and adding it to my Hawk Gallery at home is definitely on my list of life goals.
Eric Meador is a professional artist who has been doing commissions for the last 15 years. Here is his bio from Comic Art Fans.
"His early art influences were a combination of classic and comic book art, Neal Adams, Leonardo Da Vinci, N.C. Wyeth, Ernie Chan, Marshall Rogers, Andrew Wyeth, Gene Colan, Norman Rockwell and of course Frank Frazetta. He graduated from Iowa State University from the Biological/Pre-Medical Illustration department. He has spent the last fifteen years doing commission work for clients."
I'm not an art critic, and I struggle to describe art in proper terms, so Eric's work is hard to describe for me. The best I can say is that it's like a mix between realism, a dream, and comics rolled into one. You can't just scroll over his work. You have to stop and admire the detail he adds to each character.
