Happy anniversary, Hawkworld! January 15, 2026, is the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the fan group called Hawkworld. It's hard to believe that it's been ten years. When I began the group on Facebook 10 years ago, I made it a personal mission to build Hawkfans a place that was active, informative, and fun. What a journey it has been.

My commission by Stephen Sadowski
When I started, I hoped 500 fans would join me. I had no idea what would happen. I sent invites out to comic book fans on Facebook, hoping they would come by and take a look. I also wanted to keep the group public, so anyone could come see the news and posts about the Hawks, whether they were a member or not. Comic book sites like The Angrygeeks Show and 13th Dimension helped get the word out. And after six months, we had over 3,000 members. Not only that, but many writers and creators who had written or drawn the Hawks in the past were joining us as well. For me, this was the ultimate compliment and a thrill I never expected.

Since then, I spread out to Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, Reddit, Threads, and other sites to reach other fans. Many comic book sites, podcasts, and YouTube channels invited me to talk about Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Hawkworld has continued to grow. I also started this Hawkworld site about a year after I began the Facebook page, and made the site public on Hawkman Day in 2017. The site is approaching 1.4 million views and currently averages between 1,000 and 2,000 visitors every day.

There have been too many highlights to mention:
Writers like Jenny Blake (Tony Isabella), Tim Truman, Tom King, Robert Venditti, Jeff Lemire, and many others joined us. Artists such as Rags Morales, Richard Howell, Graham Nolan, Steve Lieber, Joe Bennett, Philip Tan, Joe Prado, Bryan Hitch, and so many others followed Hawkworld as well. I'm still in a state of shock when I really sit down and think about it.

Gardner and Lynda Fox (Terri Fox sent this pic to me for a Gardner Fox tribute a few years ago.)
The grandchildren of Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert also joined us. For me, this was the ultimate stamp of approval, and I thought that I must be doing something right.
Terri Fox and Greg Fox graciously invited me to the premiere of Black Adam in New York City. I'll forever be grateful for that, even though I was not able to go.

Gardner Fox Biography by Jennifer DeRoss
In 2019, Jennifer DeRoss published her biography of Gardner Fox and mentioned yours truly and our Hawkman Day celebration in the book. I'm still floored by that one.
I was able to join writers like Robert Venditti (Hawkman Vol. V) and Greg Zawisza (Hawkman Companion) on podcasts to talk about Hawkman.

Announcement for Hawkman Vol. V No. 13 Giveaway Contest (July 2019)
During the Hawkman Vol. V run, I did a comic giveaway contest each month during the series and eventually gave away over 70 copies of Hawkman to fans all over the world.
In December 2020, Robert Venditti sent me a signed copy of every issue of Hawkman Vol. V. It was a complete surprise and absolutely blew me away. Thank you so much, Rob!
In April 2020, Jenny Blake (Tony Isabella) gave me a Thanagarian name for a birthday present. In the Shadow of Hawkman series, Jenny created Thanagarian names by making anagrams with friends' names. She did the same for me, and I was "christened" Dram Tibo! One of the best birthday presents ever!
During the last ten years, we had Death of Hawkman (6 issues), Hawkman Found (Metal tie-in), Hawkman Vol. V (29 issues), and Hawkgirl Vol. 2 (6 issues).
There are so many more great memories from the last ten years. Needless to say, it has been a rewarding experience in ways I never dreamed of.
But I would have to say that the greatest thing is that fans continue to join us, and they come back to check up on the Hawks or share some news or a piece of art they came across. The group has continued to grow and thrive. I think I can say that Hawkworld is currently the largest Hawkman/Hawkgirl fan group in the world. That makes me very happy.

Heidi, Maiko, Nelson, Tania: The Best Hawk friends a guy could ask for!
I want to give a special shoutout to some special people from Facebook. There have been four other admins who helped me with the Hawkworld Facebook group: Heidi Curtis Smith, Maiko Aicrag, Nelson Fox, and Tania Corella have been with me from the very beginning. I often threw my ideas or problems at them, and they were always supportive and helpful. You can't find a greater group of Hawkfans! Thank you very much, my friends. This could not have happened without you.
In the end, I simply hoped for Hawkworld to be a place where Hawkfans could come and share their favorite things about Hawkman and Hawkgirl. I think we have achieved that together. I don't know what the future holds, but I want to say thank you to every comic book fan, writer, artist, and friend who helped Hawkworld soar these last ten years.
Thank you.
