Hawkman/Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl Updates (November 2025)

         Hawkman               Hawkwoman             Hawkgirl

Over the last few weeks, I've read some articles and seen videos about the Hawks, and many of them have mentioned that they don't know what is going on with Hawkman, Hawkwoman, and Hawkgirl at the moment. Admittedly, it has been five years since Hawkman's last series ended, Hawkgirl's mini-series from 2023 has been completely irrelevant, and sightings of Hawkwoman have been extremely rare. So, here's an update to where they are and what they are doing at the moment.

First, I have written the Hawks' history in seven chapters, and you can read up on the current versions and where they came from here

Update on Hawkman/Carter Hall III

As far as I can tell, Hawkman from his recent series by Robert Venditti (Hawkman Vol. V, 2018-2021) has not changed. He is still Carter Hall III, the reincarnation cycle is over, and he is still the partner of Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol II). He is currently a member of the JSA, a series by Jeff Lemire. Although Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunder II) is on the team with him, they have absolutely no romantic feelings for each other. Jeff Lemire and other writers in stories where Hawkman has popped up in briefly or in cameos have not mentioned much about his current status. It appears that the JSA series is continuing into next year so maybe we'll find out more about him later.

Many have been raving about the Absolute series, but unfortunately, I think what they have done to Hawkman in this universe or whatever they call it is horrible. His name is Carter Hall and he was a member of the Justice Society until the 1950s. He betrayed his fellow heroes and ratted them out to the Un-American Activities Committee. Decades later, he now has metal wings, he is dressed in what looks like a Black Hawk uniform, and his face is wrapped like a mummy. He has murdered Oliver Queen and is an all-out villain now. I see no redemption arc for this character and I can see him becoming a rarely used character that is finally killed off very quickly by a villain or two-week prepped Batman.

Hawkman is also in that DC K.O. knockout event, but DC's solicitations have already revealed that he doesn't get past Aquaman so meh. It's another Superman/Batman event so not much for Hawkfans to worry about there.

Update on Hawkwoman/Shayera Hol II

Art by Fernando Pasarin

When the Hawkman series ended in 2020, Shayera was back with Carter. Her reincarnation cycle was also complete and she is currently the empress of Thanagar. Unfortunately, Thanagar was destroyed but Horus, a giant Hawk-creature made of Nth metal, emerged from the destroyed planet and it took off in search of another planet for the Thanagarians to call home. Hawkwoman took off after the Nth-metal being and that's the last we have heard of her. That was in March 2025. This all happened in Green Lanterns Corps #1-3. They teased us with the idea that Shayera and John Stewart had a past and they at least appeared to be good friends. Carter was not mentioned once during this story. Jeremy Adams has said he wants to continue to story so maybe we'll see her pop up again somehwere. But can I just say that DC is just absolutely wasting one of the most iconic and strongest couples in the DCU. It's a shame but that's where we are.

Update on Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders II

Hawkgirl is currently a member of the Justice Society, along with Hawkman/Carter Hall. They have a strong partnership, but there is absolutely nothing romantic going on. It appears that Kendra considers Carter like a brother. She was attached to the Martian Manhunter back in the Justice League series, but that relationship hasn't been seen since 2022. The mini-series she had in 2023 was sorry to say but absolutely horrible and has become increasingly irrelevant the more time passes. I think I noticed that Kendra was in that Justice League vs. Godzilla/King Kong series, but I doubt it has any bearing on anything. I guess we'll continue to see Kendra in Jeff Lemire's JSA for the time being. At least until the next Really Really Final Crisis or Crisis on Even More Infinite Earths event.

That's it for now! If you see the Hawks around, let us know where to find them!
