Sky Tyrant: The Evil Hawkman from Earth-3
Hawkman is going to be one of the six heroes who are "infected" by the Batman Who Laughs in a DC Comics event this fall. Here's the cover for Hawkman No. 18 (out on November 13th) by Tyler Kirkham introduces us to Sky Tyrant, the evil Hawkman of Earth-3. I'll revise this post as he makes other appearances!

Ktar Deathbringer: Hero or Genocidal Murderer
In Hawkman Vol. V No. 7, released on December 12, 2018, Ktar Deathbringer appeared for the first time. According to writer Robert Venditti, he is the very first Hawkman, the Hawkman from which all other versions ever created came from. It is a shocking story about a murderous general who committed genocide with his army on planet after planet for many millennia. In this article, I want to take a look at the character and discuss why Venditti took the bold move of giving Hawkman such a dark, evil origin.

Hawkman 80th Celebration Fan Art!
Hawkman Day is coming up on November 10, 2019! We've chosen this day as Hawkman Day because Hawkman first appeared in the comics on November 10, 1939. Flash Comics No. 1's cover date is January 1940, but the comic was actually released on Nov. 10. Since we got the ball for the event rolling, Hawkfans have been sharing their art of the Winged Wonder. As the art is released, I'll be adding everyone's art to this post, so if you have some art to share, give me a shoutout on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and I'll post it here, along with your name and the source. Click the name to go to the original source! Let's make Hawkman Day a day to celebrate one of the most iconic characters in comics!

Hawkman 80th Anniversary Collage: "Across Time and Space"
During the past year or so, artist Nicola Scott has put out some beautiful covers of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Nightwing. The pictures show the history of the heroes from their first appearance to the most recent. To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Hawkman's first appearance in Flash Comics No. 1 on November 10, 1939, I decided to put together a collage of Hawkman art. I started on this picture a few months ago and it took a lot more time and effort than I expected. Since I'm not an artist, I decided to put together pictures from art by the many artists who have drawn Hawkman over the years. It was not easy. Not only did I have to look for a clean front shot of the characters, but I also had to find pictures that included the wings. I often found a great picture, only to have the wings cut off by the panels or word bubbles overlapping the art. I added the title "Across Time and Space" from the current Hawkman series by Robert Venditti. I'll list the name of the artists and add some comments below. Click the picture for a better look.

Board Review of Hawkman No. 17: Darkness Within: Black Mantle
Hawkman has been a hero who always seems to have a rage inside of him. We've seen stories where the rage came bursting out in full force. And when it's a character who carries around a spiked mace, the end result can be brutal. In the climax of the Shadow Thief story, we see it once again.

Shadow Thief: Villain of Darkness
Shadow Thief by Bill Sienkiewicz |
---It seems like some kinda destiny that him (Hawkman) and I are gonna keep runnin' into one another.
---Shadow ThiefLex Luthor. Joker. Cheetah. Professor Zoom. Black Manta. Sinestro. All of these villains are instantly recognizable to comic book fans as the main adversaries of the DC Comics' superheroes. They constantly, almost too frequently, show up in the comics of the heroes. DC Comics has deemed 2019 as the Year of the Villain, and for the main adversary to fight Hawkman, Shadow Thief was chosen. Many Hawkfans may have chosen Gentleman Ghost, Hath-Set, or Byth as Hawkman's main antagonist. But out of all the Hawk-villains, and there are many, Shadow Thief has the most appearances in the comics over the years. Shadow Thief, along with Gentleman Ghost, are probably the two most famous and popular Hawk-villains. Shadow Thief has made his presence felt in DC Comics over the years, so it can be said that he deserves the spotlight There have been a few versions of the Shadow Thief, but I'll focus on the most famous, original and current Shadow Thief, Carl Sands.

Board Review of Hawkman No. 16: "Darkness Within: Old Ghosts"
It’s DC Comics’ year
of the villain, and Hawkman No. 16 brought us villains from every direction. We
got Gentleman Ghost, arguably the most popular Hawk-villain in a flashback, a
former villain-turned-ally in the Shade, Shadow Thief, arguably the most famous
Hawk-villain all powered up, a giant shadow dragon, and the apparent arrival of
the Earth-3 Hawkman Sky Tyrant. Wow, this book was fun!

Gardner Fox Biography!
Being a Hawkman and Justice League fan, I was looking forward to reading the first biography of Gardner Fox, the man who created so many iconic heroes and superhero teams. As I read the book, it became clear that the history of Gardner Fox is the history of comics. Jennifer has gathered all the information available on Gardner Fox (no small feat!) and put it into an easy-to-follow course on not only the father of the Justice League but also on the history of comics itself. If you are a fan of comic books, this is one book you will want to read! Amazon Link

Board Review of Hawkman No. 14: "Darkness Within: Shadowed"
What makes Hawkman interesting? I often get that question,
and I have many answers. His image, his weapons, his relationship with
Hawkgirl, his rogues’ gallery, his relationships with other heroes, and the
list goes on. In the current series, we find an immensely interesting character
by writer Robert Venditti. Venditti has recreated a character by giving him
countless lives and memories that stretch across time and space, and the hero’s
journey of exploration and discovery to find truth and atonement. It’s been a
captivating series and issue No. 14 yet again brings up several things that make
Hawkman one of the most diverse and deepest characters that DC Comics has to
offer.

Board Review of Hawkman No. 13: "On Common Ground"
With the first year and the origin story of Hawkman completed, we wondered where writer Robert Venditti would take us for the standalone issue. After the big climax in the last issue, it's natural to assume that this issue would be a bit of a breather, but Rob stepped up and gave us one of the best issues in Hawkman's history. Some of the
standalone issues from Hawkman Vol. 4 (2002-2006) are some of the best issues of the
series, and this issue is right up there with those. Over the past year,
Venditti has shown us what he can do when he can build up a story gradually,
and now we see what he can do with one issue. This review is full of spoilers
so if you haven’t read the comic yet, don’t spoil it. Go buy the
comic, read it and then come back to read the review.
