In the recent Superman movie, there was a scene in the Hall of Justice. Most fans recognized a mural of superheroes on the walls around Hawkgirl and the others and a discussion about who was in the mural quickly spread through the Internet. And now, James Gunn has just posted a complete picture of the entire mural on Instagram.
For a complete list of who is in the mural, check out the article here.
The one we are centering on here is in the top picture, second from the left.
This is The Silent Knight, a knight who first appeared in The Brave and the Bold No. 1 (Aug-Sept 1955). I believe the connection to Hawkman was first touched on in Hawkman Vol. 3 No. 26 (November 1995). During the Hawkman Vol. 4 series, The Silent Knight was clearly established as one of Hawkman's former lives.

The Silent Knight began appearing more often in stories about the past and in Hawkman comics. He even showed up in the final battle with all the other Hawkman versions against the Deathbringers.

Then in The Brave and the Bold No. 10 (April 2008), another very interesting relationship was established. Superman slipped back into the sixth-century and met The Silent Knight. He later found out that the The Silent Knights's real name was Brian Kent. It appeared to imply that Brian Kent was the ancestor of Jonathan Kent, Superman's adoptive father, which would put Hawkman and Hawkwoman (Lady Celia Penbrook, the love of The Silent Knight) in the Superman family.

It's interesting to see this character show up in the DCU in this way right off the bat. It could lead to the introduction Hawkman and his past lives in a future DC movie or series. James Gunn appears to enjoy throwing these connections all across his projects. Let's hope some of theme are actually used and that we get to see Hawkman join Hawkgirl in the DCU.
Great summary. Fingers crossed for Gunn treating the Hawks well.
